An alarming 80% of black bears killed by Maryland hunters in the past five years have been breeding-age females, a decimation that seriously threatens overall population dynamics and poses a particular threat to black bear cubs. This trend, and the fact that the last empirical study of the state's black bear population was completed more than 10 years ago, underscores the need for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to conduct a comprehensive population analysis before expanding the black bear hunting season.Given the risk posed by overhunting, I am asking the Maryland Wildlife Advisory Commission to reject the proposed expansion of the state's black bear trophy hunt until the Department of Natural Resources conducts an empirical study of the state's black bear population. It's premature to expand the bear hunting season under the current circumstances. This is an outrageous number of bears killed. We need to review this carefully and act humanely and compassionately. These numbers are sickening and it greatly saddens me that Maryland is in this position. Please act thoughtfully and morally and reject the proposed expansion of the state's black bear trophy hunt.Thank you for your consideration of my heartfelt and urgent request.

I believe that the proposed expansion of the state's black bear hunting season should be postponed until the Department of Natural Resources conducts an empirical study of the state's black bear population. It is premature to expand the hunting season until the current state of the black bear population has been determined.

Trophy hunting for black bears is cruel and certainly not needed for man to live. Why can't man leave animals alone and let them live their lives free of harm. Nature is a gift to us to protect, not to kill. Animals have a right yo their lives!

Please take action to study this.
Black bear numbers are decreasing in Maryland, please don't allow hunting them! If we keep killing them, what will our future look like, no more bears and actually more rodents? This is very sad & will create an imbalance in nature. And how inhumane. How would you like it if you were a bear?

My opinion is NO to traps or hunting black bear in Maryland. I live in St Marys County & have never seen but have heard about wayward bar or two traveling through. Let them be & protect them in our area absolutely !
